(Raymond Neupert, WRN) A new set of COVID-19 booster shots are now available for people 12 and older.
A new set of COVID-19 booster shots are now available for people 12 and older. UW Madison health sciences professor Ajay Sethi says the new shots are designed for the variants of COVID in the community right now.
"it's going to help boost antibodies that you already have from the previous doses of vaccines you might have received fairly recently or long ago, or any immunity you acquired from any of the natural infections you may have experienced."
Sethi says the new shots are designed to update people's vaccinations. "It will give you antibodies specific to the strains that are circulating right now. Specifically the BA four, BA five Omicron variants."
Sethi says the shots are designed to be similar to the flu vaccines that update each year, which are also available. "The shots are going to be starting to be given in September. And you know, a model like that can be useful for COVID."
Anyone 12 or older will be eligible to get the vaccine, and you can schedule your shot with your doctor when you get set to get your flu shot.
