A man involved in a pursuit in Clark and Chippewa Counties was sentenced in Chippewa County Court.
Back in June, the Lake Hallie Police Department reported it was involved in a pursuit of a white Chrysler 300 stolen vehicle from Clark County. The report stated the vehicle had been driving down Highway 29 erratically.
The pursuit exited Highway 53 and started toward Chippewa Falls on W. River St. The Chippewa Falls Police Department deployed Stop Sticks in an attempt to stop the pursuit and prevent the suspect, Ryan Szydel from Wausau, from entering the city.
The Stop Sticks were successful and the vehicle stopped on Wagner St. and the driver fled from the vehicle. As officers searched for Szydel, they received tips about a man running through yards and alleyways matching the description of the driver.
Szydel later stole a bicycle. He was located on foot a short time later and safely taken into custody. The bicycle was located and returned to the owner. Szydel was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, driver or operate a vehicle without consent and vehicle operator flee/elude an officer.
Several other charges were dismissed and read in. He was sentenced to three years of probation, with an imposed and stayed condition of 270 days of jail time. He must also be accepted into Recovery Court.
