DIVERSIFICATION KEY TO OEM FABRICATORS SUCCESS

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006 -- 1:07 PM

OEM Fabricators Inc. announced earlier this week that they plan to build a 50,000 square-foot facility in Neillsville.

They estimate they?ll hire 100 people over the next three years, but OEM president/CEO Mark Tyler said Monday they hope to ?blow the top off? those estimates.

But what, exactly, does the welding, fabricating, machining and assembly company make?

"We work very hard at being diverse so if one sector of the economy is weak, hopefully something else will be strong," says Tyler. "That's been a very good strategy for us through the years."

Tyler says they work with around 80 companies ? many along the eastern seaboard and the Gulf Coast.

Many of the companies, such as Agco and Catepillar, have familiar names, while others don't, Tyler says.

Neillsville Mayor Diane Murphy acknowledged Monday that the city will offer incentives to OEM to locate here; those incentives will be discussed at a meeting between the Common Council, Neillsville Economic Development Commission and Planning Commision Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at City Hall.

The company hopes to begin construction of the new facility in either August or September and have it operational by January, Tyler says.
