Federal Judge Rules Against Enbridge in Line 5 Case

(Raymond Neupert, WRN) A federal judge has found that a Canadian energy company is trespassing on tribal lands in northern Wisconsin.
On Wednesday, US District Judge William Conley ruled that Enbridge has continued to illegally operate the Line 5 pipeline on lands controlled by the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.
The judge stopped short of calling for an immediate shutdown of the line, noting that Enbridge is working to reroute the pipeline around Bad River's reservation.
Conley did award the tribe damages for Enbridge continuing to operate the line and says he will double those damages if the reroute isn't completed within 5 years.
