School Districts of Greenwood and Loyal Create Joint Board Committee
Tuesday, September 6th, 2022 -- 9:01 AM
The School Districts of Greenwood and Loyal have created a Joint Board Committee.
School districts are faced with many challenges, especially rural districts, but they all try to do their best to provide students with the most opportunities possible as they prepare each and every student for their future endeavors.
Staffing has become one of the largest challenges they face as the workforce is declining and competition is on the rise. To put it simply, there are just not enough teachers to go around.
This can and has made school districts around the country get more creative with staffing, while trying to ensure highly qualified teachers for our kids. On the teaching and learning side, demands for a broader range of courses has also grown.
In order to keep up with the demands of industry and adequately prepare students for their academic and career pathway after high school, districts are challenged to provide this wider variety of opportunities.
With the merging of more academic opportunities and fewer staff available to provide instruction, the Districts are headed toward staffing problems like never before. Now is the time to think outside the box and look ahead to prepare the Districts to share resources and maximize opportunities for their students.
The School District of Greenwood and the School District of Loyal Boards of Education have created a Joint Board Committee to look at the possibilities of sharing resources and maximizing opportunities.
They all want to be clear about one thing: this is not talk about consolidation; this is talk about cooperation and collaboration. They are interested in providing great opportunities for their students by sharing resources and staff development.
Their Committee is also aware of some challenges. Bell schedules, calendars, and transportation are a few that they will look to address in the near future. In order to share any resources or time, their schedules and calendars must align.
The Committee is excited to work together and even more excited for the possibilities this may create for students. They look forward to more planning and collaborating. If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas, please feel free to reach out to your school board representative or administrator.
