SHAMBEAU TO LEAVE COUNTY

Saturday, July 1st, 2006 -- 7:44 AM

After 13 years, a Clark County department head is moving on.

Jay Shambeau served as the head of the Clark County Planning and Zoning Department and became the target of public attacks from county residents opposed to Smart Growth comprehensive planning.

Shambeau, who recently earned his Master?s Degree in Public Administration, will be leaving Clark County to take the post of Village Administrator in the Village of Kewaskum, which is just northwest of West Bend.

?Taking on the roll and responsibilities of municipal-wide administration was a goal of mine,? Shambeau said Friday. ?That was the big reason for me: professional growth, take the next step.?

While he acknowledges he was personally ?disappointed? by the County?s failure to adopt a comprehensive plan, Shambeau says he?d take the ?highroad? and not address the personal impact the controversy had on his family and self.

?We're very involved in the community. We have pretty deep roots here ? those will be tough to leave,? Shambeau noted. ?But I won?t miss some of the negativity.?

Shambeau?s final day will be July 21st.
