Marshfield Police Department Receives Reports of Facebook Scams

Area residents need to be cautious of scams when using Facebook.
According to a report from the Marshfield Police Department, they recently had two incidences of scams involving Facebook reported to them. In one, a woman reported that she sent $300 via Facebook marketplace for an authentic Louis Vuitton Alma Handbag and did not receive it.
She had been speaking with the Facebook account about purchasing the bag and having it shipped to her. After sending the money, the account was deactivated and messages were unsent by the other account.
In another incident a complainant stated that she was having problems with Facebook Messenger. The complainant stated that she looked up help on google and called a number she found.
She stated that the male she talked to over the phone got access to her banking account and cash app and attempted to take money out of her account but was unsuccessful.
