(Wisconsin Ag Connection) Farmers had to work between showers last week as some areas of the state had over two inches of rain.
According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, the state's agriculture department said in its weekly crop report that growers were still able to make progress in harvesting of small grains and potatoes during the past week.
Topsoil moisture condition levels were rated one percent very short, 11 percent short, 77 percent adequate and 11 percent surplus. As of Sunday, above 75 percent of the corn had reached the dough stage, which is five days behind last year, but one day ahead of the five-year average.
Nearly a quarter of the corn crop had reached the dent state. Overall, the corn was rated 76 percent good to excellent statewide. All but nine percent of the soybeans were setting pods.
That's four days slower than last year, but a day ahead of normal. Leaves were turning color on six percent of the beans, a full week behind the same time in 2021 and five days behind the average. The crop is rated 74 percent good to excellent.
Farmers have 82 percent of the oats for grain harvested and 96 percent of the winter wheat off the fields. The potatoes are also 22 percent harvested, which is nine days behind last year and 3 days slower than average.
The third cutting of alfalfa was reported at 91 percent complete, with about a third of the fourth crop complete.
