Clark County Beaches' Tests Showed Safe Levels of e. Coli
Monday, August 29th, 2022 -- 2:00 PM
The Clark County Health Department did the final testing of county beaches.
Beach water samples were collected last to test for e.coli in the water at beaches throughout Clark County. All levels came back safe including Lake Arbutus, Lake Sherwood, Mead Lake and Rock Dam.
However, Mead Lake and Lake Arbutus contained blue-green algae. Please assess these lakes prior to swimming in them. If blue-green algae remains present, swimming is not advised. Animals should also not swim in or consume water with blue-green algae. For more information on blue-green algae, visit: https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/lakes/bluegreenalgae.
Beach sampling for Summer 2022 is now complete. Sampling will resume next year around Memorial Day. Also, after our last report, some individuals asked why other lakes around Clark County were not included in this list.
For example, someone asked why Snyder Lake wasn’t included. The Clark County Health Department only tests official designated beaches in Clark County. As Snyder Lake doesn’t have a designated beach, it isn’t tested.
