WISCONSIN BISHOPS WEIGH IN ON HOT-BUTTON ISSUES

"No" to the death penalty....and "Yes" to the ban on gay marriage. That's how catholic bishops in the state are urging people to vote on two statewide ballot questions this November.
"With the referenda approaching, (the Bishops) wanted to write in a personal and very pastoral way to Catholics as to why they feel both issues are important, and why they should support the one, and oppose the other," according to John Huebscher, executive director of the Wisconsin Catholic Conference.
Huebscher says the bishops believe that the current standard for marriage has worked well, and the ban on capital punishment should stand.
