Wausau School District Will Have a Mobile App

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) -The Wausau school district is getting ready to roll out a mobile phone app for parents and students.
According to Mike Leischner of WSAU, Superintendent Keith Hilts says he is hoping this will improve communication between the district and parents. "I think what we're trying to do is be where people are."
He says this means everyone will get notifications instantly for important information such as schedule changes or closures. "It's really just that more timely kind of communication, right on their mobile device."
He says students will likely want to have push alerts set up for things like snow days, or in most cases, days where learning will be done from home. "I suppose for some people that would be number one, but we tend to do virtual learning days now, if we can."
He says the app will be especially important for those who get their kids to school via buses, as routes can change, sometimes on short notice. "So, we actually had to cancel some "school-to-home" routes last year, which was very frustrating for us and the families. So, obviously, quicker notification for those timely kind of events."
The app will be available for both Android and Apple users by the start of the new year on Thursday.
