BLOOD EMERGENCY DECLARED
Wednesday, June 28th, 2006 -- 2:50 PM
Current inventory levels combined with a low number of scheduled appointments have promted the BloodCenter of Wisconsin to declare a ?blood emergency?.The BloodCenter is holding a drive Thursday at Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville. The blood drive starts at 10 am and donors will be accepted until 3 pm in the Manz Conference Room.
Anyone who is at least 17 years old, weights a minimum of 110 pounds, and is in generally good health can donate blood. The entire process takes about an hour. Donors should bring a photo ID.

Editor's Note: This story is one that I think about often. It is sad two organizations like the Red Cross and the BloodCenter have become so cut-throat in competing for blood donations. If they're truly non-profits, they should start acting like it.
