CONSUMER PROTECTION: YOU MAY HAVE OVERPAID TO DE-ICE

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006 -- 10:07 AM

If you bought a product called ?Super Rid Ice?, you may have been overcharged.

The product, used to combat ice on driveways or walkways, claimed to contain 11.5 pounds of the product, but Weights and Measures inspectors with the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection found shortages in the bags resulting in overcharges of as much as 42-cents per package.

The inspectors ordered 1,170 packages of Super Rid Ice off the shelves in 11 stores across the state, including in Marshfield, Stevens Point and Antigo.

Consumers are encouraged to call Consumer Protection if they suspect they are being overcharged for products. Weights and Measures Inspectors will check it out: 1-800-422-7128.

To settle the charges, Minn-Chem Inc-doing business as BCA Products-of Sanborn Minnesota, has paid more than $37,000 in civil penalties and assessments.
