Auburndale Man Receives Agriculture Lifetime Achievement Award

Mike Sabel, of Auburndale, was recently honored with an agriculture Lifetime Achievement Award by the Wis. Association of Agriculture Educators and the National Association of Agriculture Educators.
Sabel was recognized for his lifetime work in agriculture education, agriculture service activities and community service. Sabel taught agriculture for 41 years. Ten of those years were at Mayville and Auburndale high school, with the final 31 years at Mid-State Technical College.
Sabel averaged 80 plus farmers annually in his night Farm Management classes which included on-farm instruction in all areas of agriculture plus part-time taught around 15 aspiring young ag students during the day.
Over his career he received Outstanding Young Instructor award, Honored Post-Secondary Instructor, Outstanding Farm Business & Production Management Instructor and received the Red Apple Instructor Award at both the Auburndale school district and MSTC.
Sabel helped Central Wis. farmers during early 2020 apply for over $5 million dollars of Covid19 relief aid. He annually instructs farmers in 3 counties on Farm Service Agency programs regarding crop, dairy and livestock programs and the economic impact of the choices offered on their farm operation.
Sabel worked with his students in making important farm operation decisions such as modernization of facilities and equipment and helping numerous young farmers purchase their first farm.
Sabel’s community service includes serving as a Wisconsin & Auburndale FFA Alumni officer, Auburndale School Board, Church Board officer, Park Association Treasurer, 4H leader, Wis. Jaycee Parliamentarian, Central Wis. State Fair Market Sale committee officer plus much more.
The award was presented at the 105th annual WAAE Professional Development Conference in La Crosse by WAAE President Amy Gerhardt, the Agriculture educator here Neillsville.
