RACE ACROSS AMERICA UPDATE

Sunday, June 18th, 2006 -- 9:54 PM

When Tom Kingsbury, 54, set out on this 3,000 mile trek across the country, nothing could have prepared him for what he'd face.

This Race Across America bike race has taken its toll on a number of riders. The extreme heat of Arizona, the tough climbs through the Colorado Rockies -- and then things were supposed to get better -- they didn't.

As soon as Tom and riding partner Tim Woudenberg exited the mountains and entered the flatlands, severe weather developed and plagued many riders through Kansas, Missouri, Illinois and now Indiana.

The storm is moving at roughly the same speed as the riders.

With heavy rain continuing on the course, Tom and Tim reached Putnamville, Indiana, at 8:30 p.m. Sunday night.

They've traveled over 2,100 miles since they began the race last Tuesday.

Current projections have the team arriving in Atlantic City, NJ, sometime late in the night on Tuesday.
