New Rail System in Wausau Results in More Train Horns
Thursday, August 4th, 2022 -- 9:00 AM
Some residents in Wausau have noticed an increase in the sound of train horns.
That’s because a new rail service has come to the area. FOXY Rail System took over for Canadian National back in January. It includes over 650 miles of former CN track. The interchange points include Appleton, Green Bay, Spencer and, the new location, Wausau.
FOXY has a new morning route, which has led to the increase in train horns. Wausau does have a local ordinance, which doesn’t allow trains to blow their whistles and most railroads do follow the ordinances to stay on good terms.
In Wausau, for example, trains can’t blow their horns between 7pm and 7am. However, federal law does give railroads the right not to follow those ordinances. Wausau Mayor Katie Rosenberg said city hall has received more complaints about the noise and trains blocking roads.
However, she has spoken with the company and they’ve changed their schedule. Mayor Rosenberg plans to put up a new informational video about the rail system in the upcoming weeks. If you have questions or concerns you can call the mayor’s office.
