Redevelopment of Marshfield Mall to Begin September 1st

(Melissa Siegler and Jamie Rokus, Marshfield News-Herald) -The redevelopment of the Marshfield Mall is moving forward with a co-owner saying the mall will close in September to prepare for construction of a new shopping center.
Ned Brickman, president of Midland Management, the co-owner of the mall, told the Marshfield News-Herald that the mall will close around Sept. 1, although some tenants may be able to stay open longer depending on the timing of construction.
Brickman proposed a plan to the Marshfield Common Council May 10 that includes using the existing structure to create space for a few big-box stores that would have their own exterior entrances.
Brickman told the News-Herald that there is a small interior area near Ashley Furniture and Kohl's that will remain. Some of the existing stores will relocate to that area, he said.
A different plan was presented by Brickman in 2018 that would have involved demolishing the mall and building a strip mall in its place. However, the owners had trouble getting the plan off the ground because retailers at the time were hesitant to invest in brick-and-mortar stores amid the online shopping boom.
Brickman told council members in May that they already have commitments from retailers this time around, and there is no shortage of interest in the property. Brickman told the News-Herald that there are a lot of moving parts to the plan and he hopes to be able to share more information in the coming months.
He did not share a timeline for the project. Stores inside the mall are preparing for the upcoming changes. Some are preparing to move to new spaces within the mall, while others are planning to close, have already closed or are looking for new locations.
