Funds Available to Support Education of Nurses in Wisconsin

Thursday, July 28th, 2022 -- 10:01 AM

To support the education of nurses in Wisconsin, the state has approved $5 million dollars to offset expenses of nurses enrolled full time in PhD, Doctor of Nursing Practice or master’s Nurse Educator programs.

“Administrators of Nursing Education of Wisconsin and Wisconsin Nurses Association have collaborated for several years to advance this initiative,” said Linda K. Young, Chair of the ANEW Implementation Council for the Nurse Educator Program. “It is an exciting opportunity for the state of Wisconsin.”

Young said that students must be admitted to approved programs, which can be found on the project web page (https://nurseeducatorswi.com/). PhD students are eligible for $50,000, DNP students $40,000 and MSN NE students $30,000. The awards are discrete amounts, not variable.

Funds may be used to cover the cost of tuition as well as expenses related to school such as books, travel, childcare, etc. Students must maintain full time enrollment and must commit to teaching at an approved Wisconsin-based school for at least three years post-graduation.

The funds are distributed through the Wisconsin Higher Educational Aids Board. Application forms can be found on the HEAB website as of July 15, 2022.  Applications will be reviewed and approved on a first-come, first-served basis with dollars available for fall 2022 enrollment.

Applications will be received until all funds are distributed. Funds will be dispersed in the fall and spring semesters of the 2022-23 academic year.  Applicants are responsible for budgeting use of funds to extend throughout the program of study.

Young noted that the project website contains a list of frequently asked questions for additional information, and that the website will be updated as new information becomes available.
