Marshfield Mayor Discusses Removal of "No Guns" Sign at City Hall

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) Marshfield Mayor Lois TeStrake says staff at City Hall are considering additional training now that the City Council had voted to allow the concealed carry of firearms in the building, and she doesn't think that's a bad idea.
According to Mike Leischner of WSAU, “Just to go to the class or find something on Zoom, just so you can be apprised of what the rules are and how things are. Just because you get a concealed carry permit doesn’t mean you can go and shoot everybody.”
She says she hasn't heard much discussion either way on the issue, but she does see the benefit of having the rule in place. “The decision is yours and I think it’s more respectful to not have that sign. That’s my feeling about it. Because then, if something does happen, there’s somebody there to help take care of a situation.”
TeStrake says don't expect her to take a stance on the issue, since there was not a tie vote of the council, but she says she would have supported the decision either way. “As the mayor, I’m not going to say I’m for or against it. I’m on the side of the alderman and whatever they decide, I am with them.”
The new ordinance passed on a 6-4 vote of the council last week.
