UPDATE: Human Remains Found Near Port Edwards

On Thursday the Wood County Sheriff's Department continued the search for human remains on the Wisconsin River near the Village of Port Edwards. Throughout the day more human remains were located and the Wood County Sheriff's Department will continue the search today. At this time it is believed the human remains that are being found are from the same individual.  The Wood County Sheriff's Department is asking the public to avoid this area of the Wisconsin River for a 3rd day due to changing water levels along with authorities continuing to search in and around this area of the river.

--On Wednesday the Wood County Sheriff's Department continued the search for human remains on the Wisconsin River near the Village of Port Edwards, Wood County, Wisconsin. Numerous skeletal remains have been located in this area and the Wood County Sheriff's Department will continue the search today.  The Wood County Sheriff's Department is asking the public to avoid this area of the Wisconsin River due to changing water levels along with authorities performing detailed searches in and around this area of the river. Resources being utilized are ground searches, divers, and cadaver dogs. 

--On Tuesday morning maintenance staff working on a dam near the Village of Port Edwards located human remains in the Wisconsin River. Sheriff's Department personnel responded and confirmed they were human/skeletal remains. 

The Sheriff's Department is working on a recovery mission/crime scene assisted by the Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department, Wood County Rescue, Wood County Coroner's Office, and the Crime Lab. 

There is no threat to the public and they are asking the public to stay out of the area as they process the scene.
