MARSHFIELD TRACK COACH AVOIDS CHARGES

Monday, June 12th, 2006 -- 11:48 AM

A Marshfield High School assistant coach won't be criminally charged after wandering into the dorm room of some female athletes at a weekend track meet.

Police say the coach had six beers at a La Crosse tavern last weekend, returned to his dorm and went to bed. About 3:30 in the morning he used the restroom, then wandered into the unlocked dorm room of two girls from West Bend East High School and crawled into bed. The frightened girls went to their coaches' room.

The coaches confronted the man, who then wandered into the coaches' room and finally went to his own room.

The next day the assistant coach couldn't remember what had happened.

Police were called by the executive director of the W-I-A-A after the West Bend coaches told him an assistant coach from Marshfield had been found in the bed of a female athlete.

The assistant coach was cited for disorderly conduct, but the La Crosse County district attorney doesn't plan to pursue criminal charges.
