WEC Fails to Issue Guidance on Absentee Ballot Voting Following State Supreme Court Decision
Wednesday, July 13th, 2022 -- 2:00 PM
(Raymond Neupert, WRN) The Wisconsin Elections Commission was unable to come to a decision on what to do now that the State Supreme Court said unmanned absentee ballot drop boxes were illegal.
After several hours of discussion and multiple failed votes, the Commission did not issue any guidance to clerks or voters. There were multiple attempts by Republican commissioners to tell clerks to follow existing laws or to require people who drop off absentee ballots at a clerks officer to prove they are the voter for that ballot by showing a photo ID.
Democrat members of the commission said those measures were either pointless or trying to enact further restrictions that were not in state law.
