ITS A WORKER'S MARKET
Thursday, June 8th, 2006 -- 8:17 AM
A new report says a shortage of skilled workers is hurting Wisconsin's business climate. The Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce business lobby group polled its members and found state businesses are more frequently having trouble finding skilled employees. And, some have expanded outside the state because of it.
Ninety-seven percent of responding companies say they plan to stay in Wisconsin. But, two-thirds of them plan to expand outside the state. Businesses say most difficult to find are professionals.
Observers suggest that could be because Wisconsin's personal income taxes are among the highest in the nation -- driving potential recruits to accept jobs elsewhere.
