Wisconsin Cheese Production Falls in May

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) Wisconsin cheese factories manufactured less product during the month of May when compared to the previous year.

According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, that's according to the latest dairy product summary from the USDA, the state produced 289.5 million pounds of cheese during the month.

That was 1.8 percent less than last year, but 1.8 percent higher than this past April, which had less days on the calendar. Nationally, about 1.19 billion pounds of cheese was produced in the United States in May.

That was a 2.1 percent increase from 2021, and 2.5 percent more compared to the amount manufactured during the previous month. Dry Whey output in Wisconsin was recorded at 24.9 million pounds, which was up 4.5 percent from last year, but 10 percent lower compared to last month.
