Local Businesses Receiving International Market Access Grants
Friday, July 1st, 2022 -- 11:00 AM
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, in collaboration with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, announced that 11 agribusinesses will be receiving $110,000 in International Market Access Grants.
These grants were made available through the Wisconsin Initiative for Agricultural Exports, which was proposed by Gov. Tony Evers in his 2021-23 biennial budget. Coordinated by WEDC, IMAGs provide funding to support a company’s specific export development and deployment strategy.
The WIAE expands WEDC’s existing IMAG program by designating funds solely for agribusinesses. Recipients are established agribusinesses that are new to exporting or expanding into new markets, operating in Wisconsin, and manufacturing, processing, assembling, or distributing a product that has the potential to be exported.
Some local companies receiving grants include Hsu’s Ginseng Enterprises in Wausau for $10,000 to develop marketing materials for the Chinese market. Also, Land O’Lakes in Spencer for $10,000 to hire consultants to help ensure compliance with selling products in Asia and the Middle East.
Wisconsin agricultural exports reached an all-time high of $3.96 billion in 2021. Through the Wisconsin Initiative for Agricultural Exports, DATCP is working collaboratively with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to build on that momentum by promoting Wisconsin agricultural products in the international marketplace.
