Wisconsin Governor Discusses Abortion Rights at Democratic Convention in La Crosse

(Bob Hague, WRN) Defending abortion rights was the big issue at the state Democratic Party Convention in La Crosse over the weekend.
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers said, “There is so much at stake in 2022 and we know what will happen if we aren't successful. That's why we have to win. Pretty simple.”
With Friday’s action by the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe versus Wade, Wisconsin’s 1849 criminal abortion law is back in effect. Governor Tony Evers responded, “How many other people are going to be going to prison because of an 1849 law or an 1860 law or 1900 law? This is ridiculous. Clemency will be offered to anyone that is charged and convicted.”
During the Democratic Convention Governor Tony Evers mentioned his seven granddaughters. “They were made second class citizens. This is bullshit.” Evers is up for reelection in November along with Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul, who has said he won’t use state DOJ resources to prosecute violations of that law.
