May Chicken's & Egg Report

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin egg production during May was 133 million eggs. According to the USDA's latest Chickens and Eggs report, that was 30 percent below year-ago levels, but 10 percent higher from a month earlier.

The average number of all layers on hand was 5.09 million, down 33 percent from 2021, but four percent above April 2022. Eggs per 100 layers for May were 2,614, up four percent and six percent for the year and month, respectively. Nationally, egg production totaled 8.98 billion during May. That was down three percent from 2021.

Production included 7.65 billion table eggs, and 1.33 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.23 billion were broiler-type and 94.3 million were egg-type. The average number of layers during May 2022 totaled 366 million, five percent lower than a year ago. May egg production per 100 layers was 2,453 eggs.
