Wisconsin's Largest Utilities Delay Retirement of Coal Plants
Friday, June 24th, 2022 -- 8:05 AM
(Bob Hague, WRN) Wisconsin's largest utilities will delay retirement of three large coal plants.
We Energies and Alliant Energy released separate statements, explaining a decision based on global supply chain and economic challenges, as well as a potential energy shortage next summer.
According to the utilities, the plants, in Oak Creek, Sheboygan and Portage, will be used largely during days of highest customer demand. Retirement of the plants will now occur from May 2023 for the oldest units at Oak Creek, to June 2026 for the two remaining units in Portage.
