IRS Security Officials Tracking Scams Targeting Financial Data

Thursday, June 23rd, 2022 -- 11:00 AM

(Raymond Neupert, WRN) The IRS has been tracking a number of scams seeking people's personal financial information.

Spokesman Christopher Miller says a new scam targets job seekers. "We're seeing reports of fake job postings on social media that entice victims to provide personal information, financial information, only to be used against them."

Miller continued, "Any text message random incoming out of the blue phone call or email that inquires about bank account information or asking you to click on a link or verify data should be considered suspicious."

Online scammers are trying to continue to use the pandemic to get personal data from people. Miller says you don't need to fill out any forms to get any more stimulus payments. "Remember most people have already received all of the stimulus payments they're entitled to."

Miller says that like with most out of the blue messages about work, loans, or lottery winnings, you can safely ignore and delete those messages.
