ROAD CONSTRUCTION SEASON UPON US

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006 -- 10:24 AM

Summer road construction season is upon us and a couple major arteries in the Clark County highway system are in for some major work.

Randy Anderson of the Clark County Highway Department is encouraging drivers find a route other than County Highway ?H? from State Highway 73 to County Highway ?K?. That 4 ?-mile stretch of road has been pulverized and is now awaiting new pavement.

A five-mile stretch of highway ?K? is also getting repaved this summer.

While no detours are planned, Anderson encourages taking an alternate route if possible.

"For larger trucks, we're encouraging alternate routes," Anderson says. "To keep down on the traffic for the paving and, secondly, for the loose stones - if you can find a different route, it may save a windshield."

Highway ?H? is a favorite route for those living west of Marshfield. Anderson says the traffic has led to significant wear.

"(The pavement) is about sixteen years old. It was starting to pothole. It was definitely time to take care of it," Anderson says.

Paving on the roads will begin in the next couple weeks, and should be complete by August.
