Monkeypox Confirmed in Two More States; None in Wisconsin

Tuesday, June 21st, 2022 -- 1:01 PM

(Bob Hague, WRN) Monkeypox cases have been confirmed in two additional states, Missouri and Indiana, over the weekend.

Dr. Ryan Wozniak with the Wisconsin Department Health Services Bureau of Communicable Diseases says the virus is not easily transmitted. ”It is a virus that typically requires close physical contact with a person who is infected, who has active lesions, or with their clothing or other materials, say bedding, things like that."

"It's not something that can be easily transmitted through aerosols, you know, if you were walking in a room with someone else who had it, you'd have to have very, very sustained close contact to transmit this virus.”

As of Friday, the CDC reports more than 110 confirmed cases of monkeypox across multiple states, none in Wisconsin.
