CHRISTINE RUDY'S FAMILY SPEAKS

Thursday, May 25th, 2006 -- 12:04 PM

Christine Rudy?s family say Shaun Rudy?s decision to plead to the charges came as a big relief.

?This is a huge step,? Christine?s sister, Melissa Cox, told reporters after the hearing. ?We do not have to go through the trial, we do not have to relive all that pain. This is huge.?

?Not that we're thankful to (Shaun Rudy). He did it. He should plead guilty,? Cox said.

At a makeshift press conference after the hearing, Christine?s older sister, Melissa Cox, sat flanked by parents Ed and Carol Lee. She read a prepared statement thanking people for their continued support and calling today's plea a ?big step in seeking justice?.

Cox said she wanted to address the media to counter some media accounts of her sister being a ?raving meth lunatic?.

?That wasn?t Teeny. I want all of you to look at the worst thing you?ve ever done? is that what you want to be remembered by?? Cox asked. ?I want people to know she was a good kid. She had a big heart and she was loved and missed.?

The family recounted that Christine loved to fish and was extremely excited at the prospect of becoming a mother.

?We had planned for this. We had planned the Baby Shower. We were going to go shopping. We were going to do that,? Cox remembered.

Cox said the family had a ?hole in their heart? and lamented the family hasn?t been able to give Christine a proper burial as her remains are being held as evidence.
