Groundbreaking for New Bike Trail in Wood County

Thursday, June 16th, 2022 -- 11:00 AM

Wood County Parks and Forestry Department is excited to announce the groundbreaking for the bike optimized trail system at Powers Bluff County Park.

This trail will have several different segments, which are designed for a variety of skill levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Total bike trail length will be approximately 7 miles. Most trail segments will be open for year-round use.

The awarded construction contract went to Rock Solid Trail Contracting LLC, which is based out of Copper Harbor, Michigan. Rock Solid has constructed bike-optimized trail throughout North America.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in November, 2022. Trails will remain closed until signage is complete, and notice goes out from Wood County. Once complete, trails may be accessed from the Hwy N Trailhead Parking Lot, 7141 County Hwy N, Arpin, WI 54410.

Due to the cultural and environmental sensitive areas within portions of the park, users must abide by all signage and stay on approved trails. For additional information, you may view the Powers Bluff County Park Trails Concept Plan, which was completed in 2018 by IMBA (International Mountain Bicycling Association-Trails Solutions Program).

The plan can be viewed at: https://www.co.wood.wi.us/Departments/Parks/PowersBluffDevelopment.aspx. In addition to the bike trails, future trail construction projects will include a 3 mile multi-use trail and a trailhead shelter building.
