Wisconsin DOT Reminds Residents of High Deer Activity This Time of Year
Thursday, June 9th, 2022 -- 8:04 AM
Deer activity typically increases this time of year as females search for places to give birth and young deer separate from their mothers.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, if you’re driving and a collision with a deer is unavoidable, here are some tips to remember including:
- Brake firmly and stay in your lane;
- Avoid sudden lane changes, which can result in loss of vehicle control;
- Motorcyclists should slow down, brake firmly and swerve if necessary.
If you do hit a deer, here's how to report a carcass for removal:
- If it’s along the highway shoulder, note the location and contact the county sheriff’s non-emergency number;
- If it's on the active/traveled portion of a roadway, it's an urgent safety hazard, so call 911.
