FORMER KMARTS BECOMING 'SEARS GRAND' LOCATIONS

Several Wisconsin Kmart store locations vacated several years ago when the company struggled with bankruptcy are reopening this week as Sears Grand stores, but it remains unclear what the future will hold for the still vacant Marshfield location.

Terry Linduski, Mall Manager/Marketing Director for the Northway Mall in Marshfield, says finding a tenant for that 90,000 sq. ft. ?anchor? location is a major priority.

?Traffic increase (would be) substantial. It would probably initiate most of the other vacant spaces being leased,? Linduski says of the impact another large retailer could have on the mall.

Currently, Northway has 18 tenants, but has room for 30, Linduski says.

Linduski acknowledges he?s in active talks with potential Kmart store replacements. Aside from saying he?s pursuing retailers that compliment the mall?s current tenants, he will not say with whom he?s negotiating.

Linduski took over at Northway Mall in January; prior to this job, he worked at Oakwood Mall in Eau Claire. He says filling this large of a space isn?t easy.

?At Oakwood Mall, I talked with Olive Garden for four years before they came to the community,? Linduski remembers. ?It?s just being at the right time in the expansion plans, having the right options and doing a good job selling the property.?

The recent major mall facelift and the upcoming addition of a new sign with reader board affirm Northway?s commitment to improve the mall, Linduski says.
