Wisconsin's New System for Tracking Sexual Assault Kits Has Launched

(Bob Hague, WRN) Wisconsin’s new system for tracking sexual assault kits as they move from hospital staff to law enforcement and crime lab testing has now launched.
Sharain Horn with Advocate Aurora Health said feedback from victims has already been positive, based on a pilot program. “So you know from the moment that information is collected, that that kit is collected from you, where your kit is and what to expect, versus that unknown. Victims like having that number, having their barcode, knowing how to track their information and follow it through the system. It just has a completely different feel from us saying ‘well law enforcement will contact you when they get your kit and process it and they get the results, we don’t know anything about it.”
The tracking system, created through legislation signed into law in December, lets victims log onto a database using a barcode, to view the status of the kit as it goes through the testing process. Horn joined Attorney General Josh Kaul at a Monday press conference in Milwaukee.
