Rising gas prices are tough on everyone, including those who cannot prepare their own meals and rely on volunteers to deliver meals to their homes.

Aspirus Riverview Hospital’s Home Delivered Meals program is experiencing a decline in volunteer drivers. Volunteers cite the cost of gas as one of the reasons they can no longer help their neighbors in need.

For nearly 50 years, Home Delivered Meals volunteers have delivered hot, nutritious, noon weekday meals prepared by Aspirus Riverview Hospital’s food services department. The program includes 8 routes, reaching recipients in Wisconsin Rapids, Kellner, Grand Rapids, Nekoosa, and Port Edwards.

Volunteers pick up the meals for their assigned route at about 11 am and typically spend about 45 minutes delivering them to 6 to 12 recipients. Drivers may volunteer once a week, once every other week, or another schedule that works for them.

If you would like to make a difference in your community, brighten the lives of others, and enjoy meaningful personal satisfaction, please call 715-421-7447 and ask how you can become a Home Delivered Meals volunteer.
