Man Who Hit Amish Buggy in Taylor County Enters Plea

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A man who ran his car into the back of an Amish buggy in Taylor County has been found guilty as part of a plea deal.

Skyler Opelt entered a no contest plea on Thursday to five counts including homicide by negligent use of a vehicle and reckless driving- causing great bodily harm.

Officers say he admitted to using some sort of drugs before getting behind the wheel last December and striking the horse-drawn buggy from behind- Killing a 36-year-old mother and inuring several of her children.

Investigators add that Opelt was passed out at the scene when they arrived and had to be revived with Narcan, and also refused to help first responders when he did come through. Sentencing in the case is set for mid-August.
