The Highground Transfers Camp Victory to New Camp Victory Inc Nonprofit

Friday, June 3rd, 2022 -- 12:00 PM

The Highground Veterans Memorial Park, located in Neillsville, transfers ownership and management of Camp Victory, located in Willard, to Camp Victory Inc., a newly formed 501(c)(3) created in response to the growing need for Veterans programs and recovery that focus on helping the Veterans health, both mental and physical, as well as their families through outdoor therapy.

Camp Victory will also work with Veterans and their families to connect them to resources that might benefit them; whether that be through the Department of Veterans Affairs programs, other Veterans groups, other Veterans, and state-run organizations to link them with benefits which they may qualify for. Camp Victory Inc. is a Veteran run nonprofit focusing on health, hope and healing through the outdoors for Veterans and their families.

Jeffrey LeCounty, Executive Director of Camp Victory Inc. said, “The Highground Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Neillsville, WI is transferring ownership to Camp Victory Inc. The acquisition of the land and camp is an exciting opportunity to begin assisting Veterans immediately."

"Camp Victory Inc. is excited to fill the immediate need for services to Veterans and their families through outdoor programs and opportunities. Camp Victory Inc. will have the opportunity to assist Veterans in coping with post-war trauma through utilization of the property to its maximum potential."

"The Highground will continue focusing on their long running and successful programs while Camp Victory Inc. can focus on the immediate need for programs for Veterans and their families on the campgrounds."

"This will allow a broader range of programs for Veterans and their families, while bringing programs and events to a wider range of Veterans and their families. We look forward to a continued positive and cohesive relationship with The Highground and a total goal of Veteran’s health, hope and healing through the outdoors.”

The Highground’s mission to Honor, Educate and Heal will continue and expand on its 155-acre location 4 miles West of Neillsville, WI on Hwy 10.  With the help of others, the organization's goal is to construct a Welcome Center, a year round indoor facility, that will allow them to display military memorabilia, traveling exhibits and stories that have been shared by our country's Veterans.

Additional meeting spaces are needed, not only for events but for the different retreats, support groups classes, tours and reunions that are offered to include a private office and a chapel.

“The transfer of Camp Victory into its own nonprofit affords the opportunity to include first responders, firemen and policemen along with Veterans in the healing mission and to add another level of volunteers in service to those who internally serve and protect our citizenry,” said Gary Weirauch, Board Chair of The Highground.

The Highground and Camp Victory Inc. are committed to the success and wellbeing of our military Veterans and their families and look forward to our future involvement in their lives.
