Governor Evers Announces New Round of Grants for Farmers
Wednesday, May 25th, 2022 -- 8:07 AM
(Raymond Neupert, WRN) Governor Tony Evers is introducing a new round of grants for farmers through the American Rescue Plan.
Evers says those grants have already greatly helped farmers. "Through our Wisconsin farm support program we've been able to provide more than $100 million of support to more than 20,000 Wisconsin farmers during the pandemic."
Evers says that Wisconsin's ag industry took a major hit during the pandemic and beyond. "That's why as governor I made supporting the agriculture industry is one of my highest priorities especially these last few years as farmers have worked really hard to keep food on their tables here at home and families around the world."
Evers says the state needs to support its meat industry. "I'm proud to announce an additional $10 million to create a new meat and poultry supply chain resiliency grant." Those previous grants went to direct aid for farmers, mental health services, and other supports.
