Wisconsin's Total Milk Production Down in April

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) Wisconsin's total milk production was down fractionally in April compared to the same period a year earlier.
According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, that's according to the USDA's latest milk production report, Wisconsin farmers produced 2.64 billion pounds during the month, down a slight 0.1 percent from last April, and lower than the 2.72 billion made in March 2022, which had more days on the calendar.
Nationally, 18.3 billion pounds of milk was produced in the 24 major dairy states for the month. That was also down 0.9 percent from 2021, and lower than the previous month's production of 18.8 billion pounds.
Meanwhile, the number of milk cows on farms in the 24 major states was 8.91 million head, 78,000 head less than April 2021, but unchanged from March 2022.
The average number of milk cows on Wisconsin farms for the month was 1.27 million head, unchanged from last month, but 1,000 less than last year. Monthly production per cow averaged 2,075 pounds, which similar to last year's figures.
