Lawsuit Filed Against 2020 Republican False Electors
Wednesday, May 18th, 2022 -- 3:00 PM
(Bob Hague, WRN) Republicans who claimed to be presidential electors following Wisconsin’s 2020 election are being sued in Dane County Court.
The lawsuit argues 10 “false electors” and two attorneys who advised them broke several laws. Defendants include Robert Spindell, a member of the bipartisan Wisconsin Elections Commission, which earlier this year rejected a formal complaint in the matter.
Attorney General Josh Kaul has also elected not to file charges. Jeff Mandell, lead attorney for the plaintiffs, said there needs to be consequences. The false electors met at the Capitol in December 2020, arguing they were simply preserving legal options for former President Donald Trump.
The suit seeks fines of up to two-thousand dollars per person for wrongdoing and punitive damages of up to 200-thousand dollars per person.
