STATE ANNOUNCES HELP FOR FISKARS EMPLOYEES

The State has announced they plan to help the around 300 Fiskars Brands employees who will lose their jobs as the scissors maker moves work overseas.The employees ? including 90 that work in Spencer ? will be eligible for up to $12,000 in federal assistance and up to two years of extended unemployment benefits.
The announcement came after a meeting between Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Secretary Roberta Gassman and Marathon County Job Center partners Friday in Wausau.
Federal Trade Act Assistance will help provide training, tuition and the extended unemployment assistance.
Fiskars announced Tuesday that it will close a manufacturing plant and distribution facility in Wausau and a plastic molding plant in Spencer by mid-2007.
