Wausau Woman Recognized for Red Cross Volunteer Efforts

Monday, May 9th, 2022 -- 8:01 AM

Disaster Services Volunteer Laurel Cooper has been on many deployments with the American Red Cross, ready to serve others and provide aid when called upon.

Laurel is a Wausau area native and has been a volunteer for over 15 years. She is passionate about helping others recover from tragedy. Laurel has been deployed to Milwaukee for sheltering, Fort McCoy (Afghanistan refugee shelters), State of Oregon (wildfires and heat), State of Washington (flooding); Hurricane Sandy and many more.

The American Red Cross reminds Wisconsin about the importance to start preparing now for tornado season. Some basic items kept ready can make a significant difference; such as: water (1-gallon of water per person, for 3 days), non-perishable food (such as crackers, peanut butter and canned beans), medication (supply for 3-5 days), flashlights, first aid kits, and a weather radio.

The American Red Cross is also in need of volunteers to meet the needs of our Disaster Services Mission. If you, or someone you know, is interested in helping others, please reach out to your local American Red Cross Office or visit online at www.redcross.org for information on how you can make a difference.
