Governor Evers Signs Contract for Bridge Repairs on Highway 29 in Clark and Chippewa Counties

Friday, April 29th, 2022 -- 10:00 AM

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $1.82 million contract with prime contractor Zenith Tech, Inc. of Waukesha for a multi-bridge rehabilitation project on WIS 29 in Chippewa and Clark counties.

Construction is scheduled to start Tuesday, May 3. Nine structures, WIS 29 bridges, two each over Stillson Creek, 190th Street, Paint Creek and County X, and the Cardinal Avenue bridge over WIS 29, need maintenance.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation project will: Make concrete surface repairs; Replace bridge joints, wing wall parapet and asphalt approaching both sides of each structure; Overlay the bridge decks with concrete.

During construction, WIS 29 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures between County J in the town of Lafayette near Chippewa Falls and WIS 27 in Cadott.

For work on the Cardinal Avenue structure east of Owen, expected to start in late June, the eastbound WIS 29 exit ramp and northbound lane of Cardinal Avenue will be closed to traffic during the first stage of construction; the southbound lane of Cardinal Avenue will be closed during the second stage; and the outside westbound lane of WIS 29 will be closed for the final stage.

Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-August; the schedule is weather dependent.
