Friday, April 28th, 2006 -- 10:15 PM
A judge in Marathon County ruled Thursday a 38-year-old Spencer man charged with killing his wife by shoving a ceramic Easter plate down her throat is not competent to stand trial. After hearing a clinical psychologist testify Patrick Zurkowski (quote) ?just stared at me without any expression?, Judge Vincent Howard ordered the man be sent to a state mental health institution for treatment before he can face trial.
He is charged in the March 24th murder of his 40-year-old wife, June.
The clinical psychologist testified Zurkowski may suffer from paranoid schizophrenia and could become competent to stand trial in the next few months, if given proper treatment.
