Friday, April 28th, 2006 -- 10:11 PM
A 22-year-old Dorchester woman, accused of being drunk at the time of an accident that killed her mother, made her initial appearance in Clark County Circuit Court Thursday.Authorities say Megan Redding?s blood-alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit when the car she was driving spun on a curve and hit a tree outside of Colby. 47-year-old Laura Redding died at the scene of the crash.
Redding told investigators she?d been out drinking with her mother and her mother?s friend before the accident happened on Highway ?N?, according to court documents.
In court Thursday, Redding waived the time limits for her preliminary hearing. A $5,000 signature bond was set with a pre-trial conference set for May 16th.
Defense attorney Michael Cohen told the court he planned to seek a settlement conference with Clark County Assistant District Attorney Dick Lewis. Redding faces up to 50 years in prison charges including ?homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle?.
