Daniel Peterson was back in court Thursday morning for a status conference.
Prosecutors allege he killed his wife, Vickie, over two years ago on New Year's Eve night or early on New Year's Day at the couple's Ayers Street, Neillsville, home.
At the request of defense attorney William Poss, Circuit Court Judge Jon Counsell ordered a evaluation to determine if Peterson is competent to stand trial on the charge of 1st degree intentional homicide.
Also on Thursday, Judge Counsell handed down a stiff sentence for a Granton-area man charged with 6th-offense Operating While Intoxicated. 40-year-old Robert Krueger received a 2-year prison sentence and 2 years extended supervision.
On Wednesday, Counsell scheduled a plea hearing for Heather Teschler. Teschler is the alleged girlfriend of accused murderer Shaun Rudy.
Though investigators believe Teschler was present when Shaun shot his wife, Christine, and then dismembered and disposed of the body, she was granted "transitional immunity" in the murder after agreeing to talk to investigators.
She's instead facing obstruction and aiding a felon charges. The plea agreement is subject to Judge Counsell's approval. The plea hearing has been scheduled for May 8th.
