LIGHTNING STRIKE IGNITES TREE

A lightning strike to a tree forced the Neillsville Fire Department into action Wednesday morning. Fire Chief Matt Meyer says a city police officer reported a tree located at 1200 E. Second Street was ignited after being struck by lightning at 7 a.m. Meyer says the crew put out the fire and then cut down the tree. The spent around thirty minutes at the scene.
