Granton School Board Approves 4-Day a Week, All Day 4K Program

The Granton School Board gave the Oath of Office to their incumbent board member.

Dennis Kuehn took his Official Oath of Office from the April 5, 2022 Spring Election. The Board approved the proposal for All Day 4K following a presentation by Miranda Wallenhorst to change the 4K program to four days a week, all day for the 2022-23 school year.

The Board also approved the quote for $95,119.50 from Mid-State Truck Service for a 2023 International 72 passenger bus. The Board approved the cooperative agreement with Neillsville for JV baseball and JV softball for Spring 2022 and moving forward. Approval will be required by Neillsville for this agreement to be fulfilled.

The Board also approved the 2022-23 shared transportation services agreement with Neillsville School District. The Board approved The Hartford as the student accident insurance company for the 2022-23 school year.

The Board also approved the bid for $30,055.00 from Streich Equipment for kitchen upgrade and approved the Technology bid from Bluum for $19,648.00 for interactive displays, wall mounts, and balance boxes.

After a closed session, the Board approved Darrell Laschen as the MS baseball coach, approved Parker Vivoda as the assistant MS baseball coach, and approved the shared Library/IMC Director with Loyal School District at 50 percent each for the 2022-23 school year. For the Spotlight on Education, Autumn Lloyd, the Choir Teacher, presented information presented on Music in Our School.

The Students of the Month are Liberty Young for the Elementary, Kaitlyn Timm for the Middle School, Jasmine Carlsen for the High School. They are recognized for the character trait of Honesty. Kay Heiting, Library Media Specialist, is the Staff Person of the Month. She is recognized for the character trait of Honesty.

Student Council Representative Jordan Berg reported on FFA activities and awards:

  • State FFA Honors Choir went to Emma Woller, Alexis Pongratz, Tori Seif;
  • Proficiency Awards for Agricultural Education Lizzy Reinart received a Gold;
  • Dairy Production Entrepreneurship Marshall Kleiman received a Silver;
  • Dairy Production Placement Ashlee Piskow received Gold;
  • Dairy Production Placement Anna Kayhart received a Silver;
  • Diversified Livestock Megan Walter received a Gold State;
  • Equine Science Entrepreneurship Abby Schoessow received a Silver;
  • Fruit Production Abby Woller received a Gold;
  • Service Learning Alexis Pongratz received a Gold;
  • Vegetable Production Victoria Seif received a Gold 6th place;
  • State Degree Recipients include Justin Berg, Dolorosa Thomas, Samantha Martin, and Megan Walter.

Berg also reported on Student Council Pi Day and St. Patrick’s Day activities, NHS blood drive, Talent show, and beef stick sales, Spanish Club Seroogy chocolate sale.

At the Forensics state meet:

  • Tori Seif, Lizzy Reinart, and Abby Woller received a Bronze in Group Interpretation;
  • Justin Berg received a Bronze in Radio;
  • Dolorosa Thomas received a Silver in Fargo.

Finally, Berg provided a Spring Sports Update, State Testing, Field Trips, FCA Huddle, and hockey season highlights.

The Board also heard the Committee Reports. Board President Theresa Hasz reported that the Granton Area School Foundation Appreciation Dinner at Fannie’s Restaurant was held on April 8th.

For the Administrators’ Reports, Principal Amanda Kraus updated the board on:

  • End of the Year Parade on May 27;
  • April 22 Earth Day activities;
  • Cloverbelt Scholars – Tanner Friedemann and Dolorosa Thomas;
  • Scholar Athletes - Justin Berg and Dolorosa Thomas.

Superintendent James Kuchta updated the board on:

  • Complete Control Proposals;
  • Parking lot bids April 18-29;
  • Granton Community Child Care Center Grant submitted;
  • Reading Specialist’s work review with students.

During the Public Comments portion of the meeting, a Community member and parent expressed concerns with student excused absences and missing assignments process.

Granton First Responders Janell Walter and Pat Wolf talked about the mock bus accident training that took place in Granton on Saturday, April 9th. Crystal Apple Banquet invitations for all school board members were also presented.
